Grace Livingston Hill books are true treasures. Her writing was my first introduction to romantic stories with a Biblical foundation when I was young. Her books are not preachy. They are well written and touch the heart. These books are appropriate for any age. The Christmas Bride is classic Hill. (Susan Faloon Christian Manifesto 2012-09-07)

About the Author
GRACE LIVINGSTON HILL (1865–1947) is known as the pioneer of Christian romance. Grace wrote over one hundred faith-inspired books during her lifetime. When her first husband died, leaving her with two daughters to raise, writing became a way to make a living, but she always recognized storytelling as a way to share her faith in God. She has touched countless lives through the years and continues to touch lives today. Her books feature moving stories, delightful characters, and love in its purest form.  Grace Livingston Hill began writing stories in 1877 at the tender age of twelve and didn’t stop until her death in 1947. But what may be more amazing is that she has sold over 84 million copies and is still loved by young and old alike.

Love in time for Christmas

Greg Sterling has struggled for years trying to raise cattle on his western land. When oil is discovered on his land, he is instantly rich! He returns east, hoping to see his old friends, and the old home where he lived before his mother died. Instead, he finds his old home is run down, and his friends have grown shallow and selfish.

As Greg looks out of his third floor luxury hotel room contemplating life's sadness, he sees a young woman faint and fall to the ground from her park bench. Greg rushes to help her, and takes her to the hospital. They learn that young Margaret McLaren is a poor penniless girl who has starved herself into exhaustion, trying to earn money to send home to her beloved grandparents who are just about to lose their farm.

Greg is much taken with this young woman, and arranges to pay all of her hospital bills, and to have her hospital room set up as a memorial in honor of his mother, as a free room for poor strangers. When the head nurse learns that a stranger has paid for Margaret's bills, she accuses Margaret of improper behavior. Margaret, still not well, flees the hospital. Margaret has no place to stay, and no money. She manages to find a poor job that first day addressing envelopes, and catnaps in the train station, moving around several times during the night so as not to be caught as a vagrant. She eats soup or coffee, rarely both, and manages to keep going for several more days.

In the meantime, Greg learns what the head nurse has done, and is frantic to find Margaret. He meets a friend who shows him all that Jesus has done for him, and he gives his heart to God. He then determines to set up a small business dedicated to helping people learn of God, and determines that Margaret is just the young woman to work as his secretary -- if he can find her.

Does he find her? And do her impoverished grandparents get to keep their farm?

I really, really enjoyed this book. I prefer GLH books with poor heroines who struggle against the odds, and this is such a story. I wish it had spent more time describing Margaret's days of struggle after leaving the hospital, instead it spent more on Greg's journey to find her. I enjoyed the homelike description of the grandparents' farm, even to the simple meals they ate. The ending was too fairy-tale-like to be believable, but still it was sweet. I have added this book to my permanent collection as one of my favorite GLH books.

When Grace Livingston Hill's first husband died he left her with two young daughters to raise. In an effort to support her family she turned to writing. However, Ms. Hill just didn't want to write anything she wanted to write stories of faith. Nothing blows up, there are no car chases and the future of the world is not in jeopardy yet "The Christmas Bride" is very exciting. Originally written in 1934 "The Christmas Bride" is a wonderful story of how God can take our circumstances and change them to the better. Greg Sterling left town because the townspeople thought he was worthless. Now wealthy he has returned to prove them wrong. Then he meets Margaret, who vanishes on him. As he tries to find her his old flame resurfaces. However his only interest is in Margaret. I think "The Christmas Bride" is an exciting story and a wonderful romance that will keep you reading as to what happens next. Ms. Hill knows how to tell a great story and while it may be old it still is a powerful story.

Delightful!

This has always been my favorite of Grace Livingston Hill's many titles, and I'm so glad Barbour Publishing is re-releasing her work. The Christmas Bride is heartwarming, encouraging, full of hope, and perseverance.

That's the point.

The previous reviewer knows not of what they speak. Yes, the book does teach calculation independent of meaning (equational logic), and this is so that one may arrive at results, at insights, at meaning, which one would _not_ have otherwise, or at least not with such great ease. To wit, solving Portia's suitor's dilemma is reduced to a trivial two step manipulation, rather than, for example a 21-step formal natural-deduction solution. I cannot overemphasize the astounding increase in problem solving power available to you when you can manipulate a problem without having to keep the meaning of everything in your head.... I searched for quite some time before finally finding this book, and I will be forever happy that I've been able to read it. Can't say that about too many math books. :-) Contains excellent reference summaries too, including card stock tear out duplicates of same.

Not for independent study, questionable otherwise

For the right kind of reader - namely, one with a competent instructor - this book probably does a lot of things well. It starts off by requiring you to get a firm grip on concepts that are used throughout the remainder of the book; you'll be doing proofs right off the bat. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand the content of the first four chapters until after a month of study.
I was genuinely applying myself, but I just had a difficult time understanding this material. You may struggle unless you've previously had an introduction to proofs of this kind, like in an Abstract Math course. The proofs from high school Geometry class are nothing like those seen here!
I can only recommend this book if a really good instructor comes with it. If you know you'll have a good professor who can explain things well, I think this book can take you into some tougher, more complex tasks relatively quickly. If not, you're going to have a devil of a time penetrating this thing: the author's words seem to trip over themselves all the time. It's somewhat of a difficult read, at least at the beginning; once I got my bearings, the later chapters seemed to get a little easier.
If only these concepts could be taught better... but I can't see a better method than what's done here, and that method is initially horribly difficult.
I do not recommend this book for independent study, but it may work when paired with a knowledgeable, helpful instructor. The fact that there are no answers in the back of the book limit the book's use.

A unique and very effective approach

This is a fantastic text on discrete math. I have looked at many different texts dealing with this subject and this is without question the best one I have come across. There are tons of examples and exercises. This book clearly has the student in mind and progresses slowly and clearly. A tremendous effort and truly a great success.

Worth Every Word

My sex life was good, however, it is becoming better and better and better! This book was worth the money I paid for it; it's an easy read, and also well written, in a very detailed manner. I am a better woman for reading this book! It is so refreshing to have several different options available pertaining to what stage your sex life is in right now. The research has been done, and the outcomes are reviewed in a very sensitive, but direct fashion in this read. I am very satisfied!

Solid Flask Guide For Experienced Users

This is a nice book for taking your Flask programming to the next level. It is meant for a programmer who is already working with Flask as it does not cover much introductory information.

I am working with Flask currently and there were a couple examples in the early chapters that helped me a lot. The explanations are generally pretty clear, but in some cases the author assumes the reader knows a lot.

One thing that annoyed me was the author mentioned this was the most comprehensive and best Flask book available. There's a couple other Flask books out there I have not checked out yet, but I'd prefer an author to acknowledge others in the field rather than assuming their book is hands down the best.

Some of the chapters felt a bit out of order to me. The goal of the book is to create a blogging platform with Flask but the 2nd chapter goes very deep into creating Models with SQLAlchemy. A lot of the chapters just felt in random order, and I would have liked to seen a more ground up approach to building the blogging platform.

Overall this is a good book for learning Flask. There is a lot of relevant information and you cannot go wrong buying this book if you want to improve your skills with Flask.

Mastering Flask covers all the topics needed to a create web site using Flask Web Framework. However, knowledge of the in and outs of web development is required.

The reader will need to know how to join the topics presented in the book to build a functional application. The source code provided by the author should help.The reader should have some experience beforehand in building an application using the Flask web framework or some other framework. Also, the explanation of some of the topics are not covered in depths.

The books covers advance topics, like NoSQL using MongoDB and Celery. These advances topics are not required to build a Web Application, but are essential to build modern web application that requires high performance and scalability.

The Secure Your App, NoSQL and Celery topics makes the book a worth while investment.

There is more than enough information in this book to the get you started using the Flask Web Framework, but it should not be only your reference.

This is a book for Python programmers that want to include Flask in their applications. It covers everything from start to finish. The start it shows how to obtain and install Flask and at the end it tells how to deploy the application on your own server, on Heroku and on Amazon web services. In between it tells about databases, explaining the difference between RDBMS and NoSQL databases and which should be used depending on the application. It talks about SQLAlchemy, which is used for connecting to the database. It also presents information on using Jinja to create the user views. It lists a few of the more popular Flask extensions and how to create your own.

All in all I would recommend this book.

When her father, the lighthouse keeper, sails off for supplies, he leaves Abbie in charge of lighting the oil lamps in the twin towers of their lighthouse and making sure that they don't go out. When a huge storm hits, preventing her father from returning for four weeks, Abbie keeps those lamps burning, getting up several times each night to climb the towers to check them, scraping ice from the windows so the lights can be seen at sea. In the course of the storm, she also rescues her chickens from a huge wave, thus saving the family's only source of food. The Roops allow the natural drama of Abbie's story to emerge in simple sentences that are sometimes cut up awkwardly, but for the most part they are clear and compelling. An author's note gives the interesting historical basis of the story, but the tale stands alone as an exciting account of a young girl's courage. The vivid watercolor paintings are highly effective in detailing Abbie's job as well as creating atmosphere. All in all, one of the best historical beginning-to-readsa refreshing cold blast of salty real life.
