wonderful book

I wonder why people in US are not familiar with this book. This book is great, full of examples. It is translated to my language "Farsi" and almost all the students In Iran are using it as their best reference book. I like it so much. I have the Farsi one but i just purchased the English version to prepare myself in English.

A must-have book.

Most people don't know this book exists, and I wish I had known about it when I was an undergraduate, but at least I have it in my library now! I originally tracked down a used copy of this out of print book because the author (Nayfeh) happened to be the professor of the electrodynamics class I took in grad school. Copies of this book can be difficult to find, but are well worth the effort.
The book is a treasure trove of solved elecrodynamics problems. It has 300 worked examples, and half of the problems have answers to them in the back of the book. The book also covers some subjects that are neglected in Griffiths, such as magnetic scalar potential (something Griffiths makes no use of, but can be a real life saver), and magnetic circuits.
All in all I'd say that this book is slightly more rigorous than Griffiths, but nowhere near the level of the infamous Jackson's textbook.
Out of all the textbooks I've bought over the years this one was by far one of the best purchases I've made. It was worth every dollar I paid for it. Nayfeh told us that he and his coauthor were working on a new edition, I wish they hurry up and get it to the printing press.

Easy and fun book to read

I read the first book, and I was intrigued to read the next book in the series. I like the author for her ability to build sexual anticipation, and her description of the sexual scenes. I liked the characters, and the development of their love/passion. I found the transitions from love to sex to conflict a little choppy at times, but the book still moved fairly quickly. I usually like the idea of the rake/innocent girl story with sizzling sexual scenes, so I felt this book met my expectations.

About the Author

Michelle E. Martin is a professor in Dominican University’s Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) Michelle is a licensed social worker and has held a Type 73 certificate for school social work. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in public policy at the University of Bristol in England, where she is ABD and currently working on her dissertation. Her research is focused on forced migration and refugees in protracted situations. Michelle has over 25 years of experience in the human service field having worked in a variety of practice settings, including adolescent residential, child welfare, victim advocacy, hospice, school social work, and refugee resettlement. Michelle teaches courses in social work practice, field practicum, and domestic and global policy, and currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Global Social Work Practice. Michelle’s research interests include comparative social welfare policy, human service practice and policy intersect, and the plight of refugees, including protracted refugees. Michelle lives in Wheaton with her 14-year old son, Xander, and their Golden Retriever, Sawyer.

Informative, but Biased

Although this book provided an excellent overview of the human service industry, it was extremely biased. I was surprised at the number of direct jabs she had for the Bush/Cheney administration and Republicans in general, that were often times irrelevant and unfounded. This undertone clouded the general purpose of this book for me, and as a result, I began to develop a negative perception of human services throughout the semester. Michelle E. Martin may want to reconsider this liberal bias when publishing her next textbook.

third edition is the best yet!

I've used first and second editions for my Intro to Social Services class over the years. I was somewhat annoyed to see another edition so soon after the last, but I am very impressed with the extent and substance of the revisions in this edition. While not as much fun as some summer reading, I managed to get through it quite easily over the summer and actually look forward to using it. Martin has brought this edition in line with standards established by the Council for Standards for Human Service Education and in the process really strengthened the text. She has begun to include much more information on the LGBT population as one example. I used to have to augment the text quite a bit, but I do not believe that will be necessary now. I also like the new power point slides that are available with the text. I hate asking students to pay $100 for a text, but I assign and cover information in each chapter. Also, it is the kind of text that should be kept on the bookshelf for reference by those who intend to enter a human service field.

One-sided, Liberal, Biased ....be discerning if you read this textbook

This supposed university textbook definitely shows a very liberal, one-sided, biased views towards Christians and Republicans. This author reminds me of the "moderators" of the recent GOP debates who were there not to moderate but to attack the Republican Presidential candidates. These days, it is pretty rare to find fair, unbiased commentaries on subjects of any kind. I am just grateful that that even having this as my textbook in my graduate studies, I am encouraged by my faith to discern wisely what I read and not just absorb it as the absolute truth.

Magic publishes a style guide, calls it an art book

The name is a bit misleading but walk with me.

This is actually a style guide in disguise. Yes, the thing that artists and freelancers get before a set comes out, explaining the high points, locations, creatures and major characters to build a world upon? This is exactly that, except two blocks worth of material, James Wyatt's roleplaying polished writing, fiction writing and double page spreads.

If you even have a passing interest in Magic's art enough to buy a print at a Grand Prix or online from an artist, you will love this book. It's actually rather inexpensive for how utterly enormous it is at 10"x11" and over 200 pages. If you have a coffee table, this begs to be opened.

It's worth the money and considering it's been seventeen years since the last iteration, expectations were high. Buy it, you will like it.

Brilliantly showcases the strength of Magic's art and worldbuilding

I've been dreaming for a beautiful collection like this, featuring Magic's award winning art at a much larger size than the tiny versions featured on the cards. Wizards went a step further than just featuring art, in this case featuring in depth details on Zendikar regions, denizens, and of course the Eldrazi terrors that threaten the plane. This book details the story of both the original Zendikar block and the recent Battle for Zendikar sets, providing full context for the major events seen on key cards in those sets.

The only complaint I could see someone having is that it's not strictly an art book, instead having a rather large amount of text similar to the "Planeswalker's guide to the multiverse" features on the MTG website. I don't mind this, as I love both the art and flavor of Magic's worldbuilding and feel they greatly compliment each other in this package.

This book is easily worth MSRP, and is a steal at the Amazon price.

Fantastic book of a fantastic world.

This book is awesome for all sorts of nerds. Artists get a book packed with art from magic's best settings (ravnica and new phyrexia falling closely behind), writers and rpg lovers get a fantastic guide to the setting (though seriously wizards, you own both mtg and d&d, an mtg role-playing game wouldn't be hard to make, especially with adding the cards. Contact me for my concept), and ccg lovers get to enjoy the whole shebang outside of the cards.
It deserves every star since I am all of those.
