There is a difference, for me, between 'Good Ideas' and 'Actionable Ideas'
By Daniel E. Haygeman
It is my experience that there are many great books, with very good ideas in them. What sets Mr. Weber's book apart from the 'Good Ideas' category is that most of the ideas he presents are not only developed and tested in the trenches where he works, but they are also actionable by most people, in any level of an organization, who want to contribute the kind of leadership that really matters.

Excellent book - it DOES matter how you deliver the message!
By Dana Leonard-Cialdella
Craig Weber lays out a succinct and practical model for thinking about the way we communicate, why we often miss the mark, and how to get better. Not a quick fix, but rather a set of principles and tools for making sure that we make truly informed decisions, based around conversations that engage our audience, and ensure that we both understand and are understood. Craig Weber has a whimsical style of writing, using examples we can all relate to. If you are a leader, or aspire to be one, this is a must read!

An indispensable Read for Anyone Wanting To Engage In Real Leadership
By Jean M. Koelsch
I have read many leadership and management books. Conversational Capacity is by far the most USEABLE business/leadership book I have ever read. The hard part is realizing that the book is encouraging you to have the types of conversations you know need to be had but might be hesitant or fearful of having. Perhaps you have a colleague who is also a close family friend who isn't performing at the level needed; or a boss excited about a new initiative that you are certain will not succeed as planned. Far too often such conversations never take place. The genius of Conversational Capacity is it lays out the principles and skills needed to help you navigate difficult conversations that focus on the REAL issues that are hindering performance and do so in a way that increases the accountability of all involved (including yourself). After using this book as a guide, I have had several long-needed conversations that have been highly beneficial both at work and home. I have also realized my own conversation ineffectiveness and developed the habit of testing my own assumptions that could be contributing to the problem. I also appreciated that this book was actually interesting, filled with stories and anecdotes that demonstrate and flesh out the principles under discussions. For anyone serious about building trust, increasing accountability and having powerful conversations, I highly recommend this book.

Comprehensive and Practical
By Ars Gratia Artis
I think this book stands out from others in the heap of books on screenwriting in at least two salient aspects.

First, it does a fairly good job of defining the terms being used. There is great confusion in screenwriting terminology; different authors have differing definitions for commonly used terms -- or none at all. They just throw out terms as if the reader already knows what it means or the meaning is so intuitively obvious it doesn't need definition. Or they define the term vaguely and apply it inconsistently so it seems to mean one thing in one paragraph, and then something else in another. Terms do need clarification and authors need to be consistent.

Second, whereas some authors emphasize a particular element or technique as a sin qua non -- if not the sin qua non for creating a marketable manuscript -- this book discusses all the basics with no particular emphasis or preference for one.

After surveying the basics, the authors apply their analytical schema to 14 notable films from various genres including The GodFather, Rashomon, Annie Hall, sex lies and videotape and Hamlet. Though I don't always agree as to how they apply their schema, it's a practical schema.

Masterful! Brilliant! Amazing!

Forget all of the other books out there...or, buy the other books, but make this one first on your list. Howard and Mabley are both accomplished professional writers and they know their tools of the craft, which they now share with you. This book succeeds immensely simply because it lists the elements of a screenplay and tells how each is best used and why. It has all of the basic elements: Dialogue, Dramatic Irony, etc. But ever heard of "Preparation and Aftermath", "Future and Advertising", "Planting and Payoff", or "Plausibility"? If not, then learn how to include them in YOUR screenplay to make it better, more exciting, and more fulfilling in a dramatic and universal way. Absolutely the best book on screenwriting. Period. Buy it now. I have read it a countless number of times and each time I learn something new or it spurs my imagination to create something new in the world of my screenplay. Please do yourself a favor and get a hold of this book. A masterpiece of screenplay instruction.

But you save so much money and all the information is there.

The book itself is surprisingly an interesting read, despite its academic feel; my professor recommended it as he says it's rare for books to have such good info in it.

He was an art director so you can take his word for that.

Crisis In Bethlehem, by John Strohmeyer

From Publishers Weekly
Local journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winner Strohmeyer traces the fortunes of the steel industry by focusing on the rise and fall of Bethlehem Steel, at one time the nation's number-two steel producer. PW called this a "deeply felt account" that blames most parties involvedmanagement, unions, government.

From Library Journal
Pulitzer Prize winner Strohmeyer was editor of the newspaper in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for 28 years, a period of decline for American steel. In his analysis, when new technology and competitors came on the scene, a complacent steel industry and its unions ignored ominous signs. The industry failed to adopt new technology on time, allowed management ranks and perquisites to grow too fat. Unions won rigid work rules as well as high pay. He witnessed cost-cutting measures that came too late, and the suffering of managers, workers, and communities due to layoffs and plant shutdowns. The book is thoughtful, fair, and highly readable, though not definitive. His documentation of the self-indulgence common a decade ago at top levels of big industry is fascinating, but his case against union "rigidity" is less documented. Review
"Strohmeyer's documentation of the self-indulgence common a decade ago at top levels of big industry is fascinating."
--New York Times

"A rare combination of historical insight, personal experience, and emotional involvement make John Strohmeyer's account of the decline of Big Steel captivating reading. Fast-paced as any novel, it is a must for anyone - which should mean everyone - who is concerned about the future of America's basic economy."

Transformation of America: Started with Collapse of Bethlehem Steel
By P OBrien
This book is required reading for a very interesting college course on the American Work Experience I took online through Northampton Community College. One of the course segments was on the rise and fall of the American steel industry, specifically, Bethlehem Steel. More than just a "macro" overview, Strohmeyer adds interesting personal testimonies from a wide variety of the stakeholders associated with this Bethlehem giant to better paint a clearer understanding of what caused the collapse of this once uber-powerful steel industry conglomerate---once the envy of the world. Crisis in Bethlehem is a good read as the story moves quickly from Bethlehem Steel's humble beginnings, through its meteoric rise, its agonizingly steady years of decline, to its immediate and utter destruction that occurred, historically speaking, in just one hour.

Not only does Strohmeyer tell of the rise and collapse of Bethlehem Steel using the prism of international economic forces, he fairly weighs the inefficiency of the firm. He highlights terminal marketing and manufacturing missteps without getting bogged down in technicalese and unnecessary details. But Strohmeyer emotionally connected me to this once great company's plight by offering a rare glimpse into to dark side of mankind, from the local and national politicians, watchdogs, federal regulators to the union bosses, senior management, middle management and perspective of its blue collar workers, all of whom shared a common sin that clouded their minds from reality and the truth---their love for money and power. Their lust for personal enrichment led to the short-lived feast on the Bethlehem goose that laid the golden egg.

In conclusion, the good news is that Strohmeyer's memorial of Bethlehem Steel makes it obvious how a monumental tragedy like this could be prevented in the future...by the implementing of higher moral principles of all people involved. The bad news is: A flawed human condition and man's depravity cannot be fixed by another flawed man.

Superbly written; scholarly yet touching; still relevant today
By Dave Todaro
Strohmeyer, who passed on in 2010, demonstrated superior journalistic and literary chops in sharing his decades-long, birds-eye view of the collapse of a business that many of us whose lives were touched by it, felt would never go away.

Who was most responsible for the demise of this American behemoth: Unions? Management? Government? Strohmeyer presents enough evidence to let us decide. It's a scholarly read because it is so well-researched and so many primary sources are included - and, because it is so authoritative and well-written, it is deeply personal.

An enterprise may be measured by financial statements and defined by its products, services and markets; but a business is also people, communities, and, for better or worse, a set of values and relationships between the people who toil at every level. This is true no matter how big the business; no matter its perceived importance to the nation. Strohmeyer embraced all of this. Perhaps he wrote so excellently because of his personal connection to the company. Maybe the book hit me so hard because of mine.

Having grown up a few miles from the huge Lackawanna, N.Y. steelmaking facility that was silenced once and for all in 1983, I'm one of tens if not hundreds of thousands, haunted by memories of what once was a place so loud, busy and fiery we thought as kids that monsters would eat us if we got too close. At one time, twenty-one thousand of our dads (and a few moms) made their living at this plant. Hundreds of other businesses for dozens of miles around owed their existence to it. Fast-forward to images of the same place lying desolate by the mid-80s - and now in 2014, a current drive-by of the land where Bethlehem once made metal for the weapons that helped America win two world wars as well as so many buildings, highways, and cars.

Can it happen to us again - maybe in the petroleum industry? Perhaps we should keep Strohmeyer's voice alive in the 21st century by reading his saga about the 20th century American steel business.

A glimpse back in time.
By Redwood 415
a story of industrial America that everyone should know. This book tells a story of a time in America often forgotten. When American steel in Pennsylvania supported whole towns for generations and generations. A reminder of what made America great. A great read for the younger generation that probably doesn't have a clue of the milestone factories in the great American Industrial Revolution. The book also takes a glimpse of what led to the decline and eventual collapse of big steel in America. Although we are still a major producer, we hold only a fraction of the market share/dominance that we once had.

The King's English : A Guide to Modern Usage, by Kingsley Amis

A Parthian shot from one of the most important figures in post-war British fiction, The King's English is the late Kingsley Amis's last word on the state of the language. More frolicsome than Fowler's Modern Usage, lighter than the Oxford English Dictionary, and brimming with the strong opinions and razor-sharp wit that made Amis so popular--and so controversial--The King's English is a must for fans and language purists.

Amazon.com Review
Kingsley Amis's The King's English is as witty and biting as his novels. Modestly presented as a volume "in which some modern linguistic problems are discussed and perhaps settled," Amis's usage guide is a worthy companion to his revered Fowler's. The King's English is distinctly British, but never mind: it is sensational. And unlike many of his countrymen, Amis is decidedly pro-American, even admitting a "bias towards American modes of expression as likely to seem the livelier and ... smarter alternative." In a world populated by usage mavens too willing to waffle, Amis is refreshingly unequivocal. On the expression meaningful dialogue? It "looks and sounds unbearably pompous. Nevertheless one would not wish to be deprived of a phrase that so unerringly points out its user as a humourless ninny." To cross one's 7's, he says, "is either gross affectation or, these days, straightforward ignorance." And the frequently misused word viable, he claims, "should be dropped altogether ... simply because it has taken the fancy of every trendy little twit on the look-out for a posh word for feasible, practicable." Forget Amis's protestations of being unfit for the position of language arbiter; after all, as he says, "the defence of the language is too large a matter to be left to the properly qualified." --Jane Steinberg

From the Publisher
"Readers who missed, in our cautious times, old-fashioned invective will find Amis their man...This is entertaining, like an Amis novel." --The Wall Street Journal

"Smart, witty and idiosyncratic" --San Diego Union-Tribune

"A brilliant practitioner of English prose." --Time

"Surprisingly non-stickling...[Amis] can blast with the best." --L.A. Times

"Entertaining is not normally a word reserved for usage manuals. Leave it to Amis...to deliver a style manual laced with witty, acerbic commentary." --Booklist

"There may be more comprehensive guides to English usage but there will never be a more entertaining one. Nor one more passionate." --Daily Mail (UK)

GREAT AS REFERENCE BOOK--BETTER AS ENTERTAINMENT!
By London Braithewaite
I agree with Sir Kingsley that nothing will ever replace FOWLER'S, though many have tried (Merriam Webster is a respected, wholly American enterprise). The beloved M.E.U. remains the standard, to be sure, but Amis's offereing is more an exercise in side-splitting sardonic humor about the common mistakes in English usage than the prosaic utility of its revered predecessor. Some of the funniest examples are the most useful, the most erudite being the most interesting. But I do not agree, as some of its critics maintain, that this is only meant for the people of Britain. Sir Kingsley is a thorough-going defender of "Americanisms." I recommend you obtain this volume for your work desk, but also for your favorite reading place. And be prepared to laugh out loud!

Guidance on English from a knowledgeable, skilled, and passionate user
By R. M. Peterson
I happen to like Kingsley Amis and his writings. Over the years I have read about six of his books, and from them and what I have read about him I find him knowledgeable, usually entertaining, and often very funny. Best of all, he is an excellent writer. It was clear to me, even before I came across THE KING'S ENGLISH, that Kingsley Amis cared, intensely, about the English language. Published posthumously, this book contains a host of his opinions on English words and usage, arranged alphabetically, and I recommend it to anyone who also cares about communicating clearly and gracefully in the English language.

As the sub-title suggests, the book is most readily categorized as a guide to usage, but the word "guide" needs to be emphasized. THE KING'S ENGLISH is by no means comprehensive or exhaustive. Instead, it is a collection of comments, condemnations, and -- above all -- "guidance for those who may want it." Amis commends both H.W. Fowler and his "Modern English Usage" (one of Amis's entries is essentially a tribute to Fowler), but Amis is a little more relaxed and commonsensical in his views on what is acceptable or tolerable than was Fowler. For American readers and speakers of English, a downside of the book is that it is concerned primarily with British English rather than American, and perhaps as much as a quarter of the book is of little or no interest to an American. But for me that negative is more than off-set by the extraordinarily keen sense (or ear) that Amis has for the nuances of usage and meaning, his passion for his subject, and -- I return to it again -- his writing ability. As a bonus, THE KING'S ENGLISH is laced with Amis's characteristic wit.

In the end, manuals and guides on usage can take one only so far. More important is experience in the language and mindfulness. As Amis writes in the entry for "genteelism" (i.e., a stylish or "posh" word -- "highfalutin" to some of us Americans -- used in place of a more apt everyday word), "The annoying truth is that almost every written word confronts the writer with a choice for which no rule will ever quite serve, and the price of a good style, like that of other desirable things, is eternal vigilance." Thus, "Rule 1 of writing is to get everything right as far as you can * * *."

More so than the more typical or comprehensive book on proper usage, THE KING'S ENGLISH can be read straight through, although for me doing so became a bit of a chore. Still, it was time and effort well-spent, and doing so persuaded me that I (and probably many others who care about words and language) should browse through a decent book on usage every year or so.

WRITING WRONGS
By A Customer
.
Are you disinterested or uninterested? When do you say alternately or should it be alternatively? These are words we hear everyday; but they are often confused and misused, even in the mainstream media. Help is at hand. The famous English author Kingsley Amis's last book The King's English will provide professional writers and those who care about their language, expert guidance in the usage of English.
Amis is best known for his novels such as Lucky Jim and the Old Devils, but he was also a skilled observer and commentator on late 20th Century life and language. Amis died in 1995, with this book being published posthumously, two years later.
In this book, he takes us from the classic formalism of old-school academic scholars with their groundings in Latin and Greek, through to the street-wise pop-media of the contemporary world. He bridges the gap between the rigorous, proscribed rules of the original 1926 classic H.W. Fowler's Modern English Usage and the modern, pragmatic world where English is recognised as the global language. Despite being an Englishman, Amis acknowledged the ascendancy and the practical "correctness" of American English.
Amis in his book is very careful not to be too pedantic with his comments. In his entry on the pronunciation of kilometre, he argues against the common practice of stressing the second syllable and therefore making it sound like a device to measure items grouped in thousands. Amis assures us such a device once existed, but he concludes "not many people know that, or would care if they did."
Amis has fun criticising - and gently mocking - fashionable trends in writing, particularly in the field of newspaper journalism. In his entry on headlines, Amis gives examples of sub-editors stringing together three or more nouns to make a headline, such as, SCHOOL COACH CRASH DRAMA. He also criticises the journalistic trick of overloading descriptions in one sentence, which he calls the "gorged-snake construction."
Political abuse of the language is also put under the Amis spotlight. How often do we hear politicians "refuting", when all they are doing is denying, and not proving the falsity of the allegation, which is what the word really means?
The King's English is not an exhaustive guide to language use, but anybody who makes a living from writing or takes other people's writing seriously will want to keep a copy of this book close by their dictionary. Should we be implying or inferring this? Either way, this book is inspirational, amusing as well as instructive.

This 1994 Newbery Honor Book, a prequel to Dragonwings, tells of 14-year-old Otter's 1865 emigration from China and subsequent travails in California. Ages 10-up.

From School Library Journal
Grade 6-10-Yep uses the lively storytelling techniques of his "Dragon" fantasy-adventure novels to re-create a stirring historical event-here, the construction of the transcontinental railroad. Serpent's Children (1984) and Mountain Light (1985, both HarperCollins) described the political and natural disasters that led to widespread famine in 19th-century Southern China. Cassia and Foxfire, the "Serpent's Children," came from a long line of revolutionaries. Foxfire followed his dreams across the sea to the "Golden Mountain," California, where he earned enough money to revitalize his village. Dragon's Gate opens in China with Foxfire making a triumphant visit home. Otter, Cassia's adopted son, who tells the story, worships his uncle and longs to follow him back to the Golden Mountain. Granted his wish at last, Otter finds Foxfire working on "Snow Tiger," a mountain in the Sierra Nevada range, where Chinese laborers strive to hew a tunnel through solid rock. Appalled by the living conditions and disillusioned with his uncle, Otter must struggle to survive racial prejudice, cold, starvation, the foreman's whip, and the dangers of frostbite and avalanche while trying to reconcile his ideals and dreams with harsh reality, and to find his place in a strange land. Combining believable characters with thrilling adventure, Yep convinces readers that the Chinese railroad workers were indeed men to match the towering mountains of the west. Because the first few chapters, set in China, may be a bit confusing to children who have not read the previous two books, this will likely need booktalking.

From Kirkus Reviews
Yep illuminates the Chinese immigrant experience here and abroad in a follow-up to The Serpent's Children (1984) and Mountain Light (1985). After accidentally killing one of the hated Manchu soldiers, Otter (14) flees Kwangtung for the ``Golden Mountain''; he finds his adoptive father Squeaky and Uncle Foxfire in the Sierra Nevada, where thousands of ``Guests'' are laboriously carving a path for the railroad. Brutal cold, dangerous work, and a harsh overseer take their toll as Squeaky is blinded in a tunnel accident, Foxfire is lost in a storm, and other workers are frozen or half-starved. By the end, toughened in body and spirit, Otter resolves never to forget them or their sacrifices. Foxfire and Otter consider themselves only temporary residents here, preparing for the more important work of modernizing their own country while ridding it of Manchu, Europeans, and, especially, the scourge of opium. America is a dreamlike place; English dialogue is printed in italics as a tongue foreign to most of the characters; and though Otter befriends the overseer's troubled son, such social contact is discouraged on both sides. In a story enlivened with humor and heroism, Yep pays tribute to the immigrants who played such a vital role in our country's history. Explanatory note; reading list. Dragon Gate - A Clash of Cultures
By A Customer
Dragon Gate is a heartbreaking story about a young Chinese boy's life America. Otter had to move to America after he got into some trouble in China, and worked on the railroad during the industrial revolution. This compelling story is about the hardships, clash of cultures, and discrimination that Otter had to deal with. It is a deeply moving story that I enjoyed immensely. It is a story that many people can relate to, which is why I encourage that it should be read. The themes and lessons in this book are very poignant, and relate to everyone on some level. The Characters are very life like and seem almost like real people, and you start to see a little of yourself in Otter. You can't help but put yourself in the characters shoes, and imagine what you would have done in their place. The words and descriptions pull you into the story and make you feel as if you were there; going through every thing Otter was going through.

I would recommend this book to anyone above middle school level and to teenagers especially. Older readers can identify more with the feelings of change, loss, and not fitting in that Otter goes through. At one point in our lives we all have an idol that we try to emulate, and sometimes when that idol does not live up to are high standards we feel let down and betrayed. Otter goes through these feelings with his Uncle Foxfire, and the story makes you realize that our idols are only people and that we should allow them to make mistakes. Even though the book seems simple it is the hidden messages in it that make it such a good read. The story teaches us the lesson of forgiveness, of standing up for what you believe in, but it also enlightens us that it is okay to be scared and make mistakes along the way.

A Different Perspective
By A Customer
The thing that I liked the most about Dragon's Gate was the diversity of the different personalities of the characters. For example, Sean was a westerner who was very friendly with the T'ang men, while the other westerners disliked the T'ang men and treated them scornfully and disrespectfully. Different personalities also existed within the crew. You can observe that Squeaky was humorous and entertaining because of the way he reacted towards the Chinese people addicted to opium. On the other hand, Foxfire, was more of a serious mentor who always worried about issues, gave precious advice, and tried to keep his promises. Also, each character had a different talent. Dandy played the moon guitar, Packy was an excellent chef, and Curly liked to bet. I was really interested in the variety of different personalities of the characters.

I would recommend this book to the descendents of the T'ang men who built the tunnel. They had risked their lives and made countless sacrifices to their family and crew members. They cooperated and worked as a team in order to fulfil their destinies. For example, Sean wanted to go to school to become an engineer, Noodles wanted to open a restaurant, and Doggy wanted to establish a theater. However, I would like to change the ending of the book, but I don't want to give it away. I would like to change the situation that Otter ended up in and the country that he chose to stay in. I would also like to eliminate Otter's dream that guided him through his decisions, because he thought that it was a message that he had to follow. Other than the few things that I would like to change about the book, I really liked the plot and all the experiences that the characters went through.

Quite Fair
By A Customer
Dragon's Gate seems to be quite the marvelous book to read. I always favored the Chinese culture, and it was pleasing to learn more about it. Though I didn't really understand half of it. It didn't seem to get through my head when it was mentioned Otter was adopted by a new woman, who was married to Squeaky, but had feelings for another man, his father. I wasn't exactly sure whether his adopted father was Squeaky or not, which threw me off course slightly. However, the book was very enjoyable. It was somewhat humorous, since Braid seems to be a gurgler when someone says something wrong. It was strange though, how they called America 'The Golden Mountain.' I was somewhat confused more than half the time, but I was able to understand the story. It was exciting when he acctually had the chance to visit 'The Golden Mountain,' as well. Out of all events, I liked three the most. I adored how Braid continued to clear his throat and gurgle while Otter's friend carried on with speaking. It was amazing to learn that a special drug, opium, was sold in China after the Opium War, causing several addicts spending their money, resulting to poverty. What I truly liked the most though was the fact that Otter's father had worse English than Otter, when his father had been working on 'The Golden Mountain' for years. I would definately recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction, at ages ten and up.

Chinese Link, 2e provides a practical, learner-centered and enjoyable language and cultural learning experience for beginning students of Chinese, as well as an efficient and comprehensive teaching resource for instructors.

This best-selling text takes care to introduce and explain grammar points clearly and systematically, yet not in a fashion that would be overwhelming to beginners. In keeping with the communicative focus of the text, grammar points are related to communicative task-oriented content. The textbook presents both traditional (complex) and simplified versions of Chinese characters, since learners will encounter both forms during their course of study or in travel abroad.  Photographs and drawings make the text vivid and eye-catching, and to provide visual cues to aid in communicative exercises and activities. And the Video Program to accompany the “Language in Use” sections enhances the in-text dialogues by presenting them in authentic settings.

Review

Chinese Link is by far the best structured and sequenced textbook I have ever seen with a scope covering all necessary structural and communicative elements for elementary Chinese.

I am a strong supporter for this practice to combine pinyin with characters in first year textbook since it will give learners immediate hints about the pronunciation of characters which are totally foreign to English speaking Chinese learners.

The video for ‘Language in Use’ is great!  The video presentations impressed me greatly in that with its authentic settings and naturally occurring communicative activities, they will not only help learners outside class but also in class.

–Wenze Hu Ph.D., Assistant Professor, US Naval Academy

Given students’ beginning level of proficiency in Chinese, the accompanied Pinyin would be a welcome service to the students who can then focus better on the sentence structures involved.

This is a great textbook with an integrated approach for developing students’ overall linguistic and communicative competence.

The “Culture Link” sections are what make this book different from other traditional textbooks.

I find the audio resources on this Companion Website wonderful and they should be taken advantage of by all who use the textbook.

I love the video presentation of this textbook. I think it tremendously enhances the dialogues and the texts because of quality of the pronunciations of the cast who acted out these texts.

–Jean Wu Ph.D., Director Chinese Language Program, University of Oregon

The grammar activities are well-guided and involve more interaction [than Integrated Chinese].

–Chao-mei Shen Ph.D., Senior Lecturer of Chinese, Rice University

Good price for what you get, i guess
By Cindy
I liked that it was binder because the one at my school was not binded, so it need to be put into a binder.
The one at my school also included all the audio cps and access codes, but it was 80.00

WARNING: This does not come with an access code card, you have to buy it seperately. That was a major downer.

Pretty good book for learning Chinese...
By Lobsterfrosting
This is a pretty good resource for Chinese learning, but be aware that it does not teach you anything about the culture and why some words are not used anymore due to their changed meanings. This book teaches you how to talk like a robot, which is a good way to start. Anyway, I recommend this to beginners, but do a little history reading about China before you simply go over there calling people names!!!

Used for my class
By Brian
I got this book for my Chinese class, I actually got the wrong book! We were using the Simple Character Version. Both of the books would work, I actually think traditional Chinese characters look a lot prettier than simple.
