Compelling story, great characters

Risking Exposure is a wonderful book, well written, well researched, and very engaging. The character of Sophie, the young girl in Nazi Germany who contracts polio, is compelling. I agree with the other reviewers that you will find yourself thinking of Sophie long after you’ve turned the last page. To me, that’s when a story becomes more than just a good read; it becomes a great book. Because the story and characters continue to resonate, Risking Exposure is ideal for book discussions or classrooms. It’s geared for young adults, but could certainly find an audience with readers past their school years.

Excellent story!!!

This book was a wonderful read! Very well written. It IS true that you find yourself think thinking of the young character, Sophie, long after the last page. This is an excellent story for middle school or high school students as well as adults!

Excellent evocation of a young girl's life in Nazi Germany

This is a wonderfully written first novel by this author. It vividly brings to life the early days of the Nazi regime through the eyes of a young German girl caught up in events beyond her control. The book traces her evolution from a shy, fearful youngster into a young woman who can be courageous in the face of danger. With meticulously researched details and colorful language the author draws us into her world and reveals what life was like in Germany in 1938. It is appropriate for high school age readers and could even be used as supplemental reading in a history class, but adults will enjoy it, too.
